I hope you like pushing lots of buttons!
My, what big teeth you have!
Beast Mastery is now running behind Survival, in terms of test dummies, but we’re still on top in the real world. Sic ‘em Sparky!
First off, bookmark this: Ask Mr. Robot Gear Optimizer
Agility > Hit (7.5%) = Expertise (7.5%) > Crit > Haste > Mastery
This translates as follows: Damage good! > Shots and bites actually hitting good! = Shots and bites actually hitting still good! > Shots and bites will hurt! > Moar shots and bites! > Harder bites!
Dogbert’s Recommended Spec
First off, remember that talents are completely preferential now. However, here’s why I think this is the best build.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera gives you more of the stuff you need when you need it. This one’s a no-brainer.
Binding Shot is ok on trash packs, I guess. This tier kinda sucks.
Aspect of the Iron Hawk is another no-brainer for raiders. Across the board damage reductions always come in handy for Raid AOE pulse damage.
Dire Beast is your default Beast Master DPS choice. Choose it!
Murder of Crows gives you a second DoT to manage, but it’s effective and the right choice!
Glaive Toss is your best choice here (Barrage if you know you’re going to be dealing with a ton of AoE).
Make sure your pet is in Ferocity spec, and that Growl is OFF! Choose the right pet to bring the buff your raid is missing. If you’re in a 25-man situation, chances are all buffs are covered, so I highly recommend bringing a Quilen to give your raid an extra pocket Battle Rez.
Major Glyphs and You: Scribble to Victory
Glyph of Animal Bond helps your healers help you! This is the only mandatory Glyph, minor or major. Pick the rest as best fits your playstayle.
Always have Aspect of the Hawk on!
0. Hunter’s Mark on the Target
0. Misdirection to Tank/Pet
1. Kill Command
2. Kill Shot (once the boss is below 20% health, this is a high priority shot)
3. Serpent’s Sting (apply and maintain with Cobra Shot, this should always be ticking)
4. Glaive Toss
5. Dire Beast
6. A Murder of Crows
7. Focus Fire (at 5 stacks, icon will glow to indicate when to use it)
8. Arcane Shot (til you run out of focus)
9. Cobra Shot
1. Stampede gets everyone in on the action, use it every cooldown
2. Bestial Wrath (60 sec CD) should be used every cooldown, and stacked with Rabid (90 sec CD) (which you will find in your pet’s spellbook) every other time
3. Rapid Fire should be used every cooldown just as the buff from Bestial Wrath wears off.
Pets no longer have talent trees, just three specs you can assign them them at will. Ferocity is still your best DPS spec, Tenacity is still your best Tank spec, and Cunning is still your best burst spec.
However, pets still do bring their own special buffs! We’re also getting access to new pets once we get to Pandaria, so here’s a quick rundown of the buffs each kind of pet brings to the table. As a Beast Mastery Hunter, you get to tame awesome Exotic pets that bring some very cool abilities to the table. Something to keep in mind is that the buffs brought by many pets has indeed changed from Cataclysm so you have to be careful! Let’s review
In a 25-man raid situation, I highly recommend skipping the buffs and debuffs portions and going straight to Utilities. Those are where you can really shine!
